Unfortunately, this is not the first time something like this happens: once you sent a message on WhatsApp to a person you knew but, then, you thought about it and wished you could have been able to delete the message so you could rewrite it. from scratch.

You just need a few minutes of free time: have your Android, iOS or Windows Phone mobile device at he because I'm about to explain in detail how you can carry out this deletion procedure for an already sent message. I'm sure that, if you pay maximum attention to the reading of this tutorial, you will be able to carry out the explained without any difficulty, we bet? That said, I'd say we can get to the heart of the matter. Get ready because it begins; I wish you a good read as always.

How to get the new WhatsApp feature (Android)

This new WhatsApp feature that allows you to delete sent messages was introduced on the server side in the messaging app. This means that, in theory, to be able to use it, you don't need to wait for an update to the app to be notified.

However, it may take time for a new feature to be introduced on all mobile devices running Android, iOS or Windows Phone. As a reont, if this feature is not yet live on your device and if you don't want to wait, you can take steps to check for a WhatsApp update. The functionality may become agolable after you update the app.

So my advice is to follow the instructions I'm about to give you: I want to explain how to proceed to manually update WhatsApp, if agolable.

If you have an Android smartphone, to check if there is an update for the WhatsApp application you must go to Google PlayStore, the virtual store for Android devices through which you download and update games and applications.

Once Google PlayStore is open, you must tap the button with the menu symbol (three horizontal lines). A side menu will open: now tap the wording item My apps and games.

From the next screen, now locate the Updates section. If the WhatsApp app is present on this screen there will also be the refresh button. In this case it means that there is an update agolable for the app and by simply pressing the refresh button you can manually update the app.

In case the WhatsApp application is not present in this section, tap on the wording install: the application will be present in this section and instead of the refresh button will present the Open button.

How to get the new WhatsApp feature (iOS)

If instead you have an iPhone read carefully the following lines: I will explain how to proceed to manually update the WhatsApp application.

First you need to open theAppStore, which is the virtual store of iOS devices through which you update and download games and applications. Once the Store app is open (it has a stylized Un symbol on a blue background), tap on the Updates item (a down arrow symbol).

You will then find yourself in the section dedicated to the application updates. e you can proceed to check the agolability of an update of the WhatsApp application. If an update is agolable, the WhatsApp application will appear in the list of applications; to update it just press the refresh button.

Instead of the word update, there is the wording Abri? Then it means that the application is already updated to the latest version and you don't have to do anything.

How it works to delete a sent message in WhatsApp

The new feature introduced in WhatsApp allows you to delete one or more messages sent in a single chat or in a group chat. Unlike deleting a traditional message (which I told you about in more detail in my guide on how to delete a WhatsApp message), after this update, it is possible to delete a message also for the recipient (or recipients) of a single (or group) chat.

This tool is therefore very useful in case of sending a message in an incorrect chat, or in case the text of the message sent contains an error.

However, please note that when using this feature, when a guest message is deleted for everyone, it will not disappear from the chat. The text of the deleted message will be replaced with the wording You have deleted this message. The recipient(s) will see the indication This message has been deleted: this means that the sender has deleted the message.

The functionality in question is only agolable for messages sent within 1 hour (68 minutes and 16 seconds, to be precise) and is not retroactive: this means that it is not possible to delete messages sent earlier when this tool is agolable.

How to delete a sent message in WhatsApp (iOS)

You sent a message in a wrong chat on WhatsApp from your iPhone and you would like to fix it, also deleting it for the recipient? No problem: I will explain how to proceed in the following lines.

Then tap and hold the single message to be deleted e, from the drop-down menu that will appear, press the delete item. This way, you can optionally place the checkmark on more than one message to delete.

After selecting the message(s) to delete, tap the button with the trash can symbol. In the drop-down menu, then tap the Delete for allitem.

When you do this, the text of the message will have been deleted and the wording You have deleted this message will appear. The recipient (or recipients, in the case of a group chat) will see the wording This message has been deleted.

If you want to automatically delete messages from a chat, you can turn on i ephemeral messages. To do this, open the chat you are interested in on WhatsApp, tap the name of the chat at the top, select the wording Ephemeral messages and then the Enable option appears. The new messages that will be sent in the chat from this moment, will disappear 7 days after they are sent. More info here.

The new feature that allows you to delete a message sent on WhatsApp is also agolable on Android smartphones. So, I will explain how to proceed on your device equipped with the operating system developed by Google.

Touch and hold the message to delete and optionally select other recently sent messages if you want to delete more than one message.

To delete the message, press the trash can symbol button at the top. Then confirm the deletion of the message(s) by tapping on the Delete for allwording.

How to delete a sent message in WhatsApp (Windows Phone)

On Windows Phone devices, the procedure to delete a guest message in WhatsApp is just as simple.

Open the messaging app, tap the conversation where you sent the message in error and then tap the three dots symbol at the top right. In the drop-down menu, tap the wording Select messages.

Then put the checkmark on all recently sent messages to be deleted and then press the button with the trash can symbol. In the drop-down menu, then tap the Delete for all wording. Instead of the message text, it will be written You have deleted this message while the recipient will see the writing This message has been deleted .

    Troubleshooting common problems:

To take full advantage of the ability to delete messages for everyone, there are a few situations to be aware of. Below I want to explain what are the possible situations where the message text is not deleted, in order to troubleshoot the most common problems.

    • The message text is not deleted and the wording does not appear You have deleted this message: for everything to work correctly, the sender and the recipient must have the latest version of the WhatsApp application on Android, iOS or Windows Phone.
    • The recipient still saw the message; this may be happening. The functionality in question is also agolable if the message has already been viewed via a notification or directly via the conversation screen.
    • The wording does not appear Delete for all: if more than 7 minutes have passed since the message was sent, you will no longer be able to use this feature.
