How to remove background noise from the microphone
Very often, when making a registration, not enough attention is paid to the device used to record. You may in fact think that the microphone background noise problem is due to the software used to record, but, as you will read in the next chapter, it is possible that your recording problems are solvable. changing the microphone or, if you already have a decent quality microphone, use some simple tricks to be applied to the latter.
Purchase a good quality microphone
For a good quality recording, it is essential to have a good quality microphone. Contrary to what you might think, however, a microphone capable of recording clearly and cleanly does not necessarily have to have a particularly high cost. I have selected for you some of the best microphones suitable for different uses.
If you are looking for a good microphone that knows how to combine quality and price, I recommend you buy the Trust GXT 232 Mantis which, thanks to its characteristics and its competitive price, will allow you to make great recordings in all simplicity. The presence of a pop filter included and the very stable tripod make this device an excellent economic choice from all points of view, together with the fact that the connection to the PC is of the digital, using the USB steard.

If you already own a microphone and don't plan on swapping it for a more advanced model, don't worry - you can always add one to your device. windproof sponge. This type of filter, in fact, allows you to physically eliminate the entry into the microphone of many background noises, such as wind or some environmental disturbances data for example from household appliances such as fans, air conditioners or other.
Depending on the diameter of your microphone, you may need to purchase a different sized windproof foam. Precisely for this reason I have selected for you some of the best windproof sponges suitable for any device.
La Neewer windproof sponge, for example, it is suitable for most condenser microphones, thanks to its elasticity and steard measures of 4,5 x 4,5 x 12 cm. If, on the other he, you have a smaller microphone or type microphone lavalier of 6,3mm in diameter, I recommend that you buy a set of AMACOAM wind filters which, thanks to the foam composition and the quality of the filters themselves, allow a clean recording with any microphone that has a compatible diameter.

In any case, whether you've decided to buy a new device, a windscreen, or you've chosen to keep your current microphone, let me give you a few more. advice, I hope valid, to greatly improve the quality of your recordings.
- Keep the right distance from the microphone - contrary to what it may seem, not always approaching the microphone means improving the quality of the final reont. An excessive proximity, in fact, could lead to audio distortion that would prevent the realization of a quality recording. Always keep at least 10cm away from your microphone to avoid these situations.
- Do not place the microphone towards noise sources - even if it may seem obvious to you, this advice is often ignored. Most microphones, in fact, pick up sound waves in a directional or semi-directional way, and could significantly worsen the recording quality if exposed, for example, to open windows, crowded environments or appliances such as air conditioners, fans or the like.
- Keep the microphone and filters clean - always make sure that the microphone and any wind or pop filters are clean and free from obstructions. It is not uncommon, in fact, that the need to amplify the microphone volume due to incorrect maintenance causes distortions and audio artifacts that are difficult to eliminate.
How to eliminate microphone background noise on Windows 10
Very often, despite the precautions and the use of quality devices, we find ourselves with unclear recordings or excessively disturbed by background noise. If it happened to you too and you are wondering how to fix this problem on your PC with Windows 10, keep reading: in the next chapters, in fact, I will explain in detail the use of some software able to eliminate the background noise of the microphone through different approaches.
Nvidia RTX Voice
I know what you're thinking: you're wondering how it can Nvidia, manufacturer of video cards, help you in recording audio without background noise. Well, even if Nvidia specializes in the production of video cards and software related to them, it is from this company that comes one of the most innovative software able to clean the incoming audio and therefore to eliminate the background noise.
Nvidia RTX Voice (this is its name) exploits the enormous potential of new generation video cards to process the audio stream coming, for example, from the microphone in real time. Using complex algorithms based on Tensor Core, the components of video cards often used in artificial intelligence operations, Nvidia promises to solve audio noise problems almost completely without any kind of final distortion.
In order to use Nvidia RTX Voice, the only requirement is that of have an RTX video card produced by Nvidia. The Ray Tracing technology, in fact, is the basis of this utility and allows the exploitation of the enormous computing capacity of the graphics processors in question. Finally, be sure to update your video card drivers to ensure full compatibility of the video card with Nvidia RTX Voice.
Once this is done, open your browser and head to the Nvidia RTX Voice download page and click on Download the app to start the software download. Once done, locate the executable file just downloaded and double click on it to run it. If you have an RTX video card, the program will automatically install the RTX Voice.
On the screen that was just proposed to you, be sure to select from the menu Input device your microphone and from the menu Output device your audio playback device. In addition, to enable the microphone noise reduction function, click on the tick Remove background noise from my microphone and drag theindicator of the percentage of suppression about halfway noise. You will be able to change this last parameter in the future, depending on the reonts obtained and your personal preferences.
The last step to take in order to take advantage of RTX Voice in your recordings is to select the software as the default audio input. To do this, search Control Panel in the search field next to the button Home (the flag icon located in the lower left corner of the screen) and select the first occurrence returned.
Now press the menu item Audio and click on the tab Recordings. In the list of recording devices, you will notice the appearance of a microphone called Nvidia RTX Voice, created by the newly installed software. Then right click on it and hit the menu item Set as default device in order to allow any audio capture program to take filtered audio from RTX Voice.
So you can use RTX Voice to make recordings or direct with software like OBS or simply make your calls clearer on services like Skype or Zoom.
Audacity
Sometimes you may not be able to completely eliminate the background noise of the microphone even though you have performed all the operations described up to now.
In this case, you can work in post production on the recording file you obtained in order to eliminate background noise. To do this, you can use Audacity, a free and open source software agolable for all popular operating systems, capable of performing useful editing operations on audio files. If you don't have it yet, I recommend reading my guide on how to download Audacity to get this program in no time.
Once Audacity is open, you can decide whether to record audio by pressing the button with a red dot placed in the top center or whether to import a recording at your disposal by pressing going to the menu File> Open (top left).
With the file imported or recorded, look for a point on the graph where the background noise is well present e, instead, there is no voice or other sounds that you do not want to remove.
At this point, press and hold the left mouse button and select the portion of audio containing only background noise. I strongly recommend that you click the ▶ ︎ button, top left, to listen to the selected audio and make sure it contains only background noise.
Once this is done, go to the menu Effects> Noise Reduction (up). Then press the button Process background noise and wait for Audacity to analyze the background noise present. Later, press twice quickly on the sound wave to select it completely, then click the menu again Effects and choose the item again Noise reduction da quest'ultimo.
At this stage, you can set the noise reduction parameters. The value Noise reduction (dB) indicates lowering the volume of the portions of audio containing background noise. Depending on the final reont, you can raise or lower the value of this parameter.
the options Sensitivity and Frequency smoothing (bes) instead they indicate to the software the precision to be used in recognizing the background noise. The higher these parameters are, the more precisely the background noise will be isolated; at the same time, however, an excessive value could lead to less effectiveness of the audio cleaning activity.
Once you have set the parameters according to your preferences, click on the button Preview to hear a small portion of processed audio. If you are not satisfied with the reont, you can adjust the parameters to improve it. When you feel satisfied, press the button Ok, to process the entire file.
Now that your registration is clean, go to the menu File> Export, at the top, and choose theMP3 or the format in which you want to export the song. In the window that opens, then choose the name you want to give to your recording and press the button Save.
Audacity also allows you to insert some information into the file, such as the author's name or other entries: once this is done, press the button Ok to finally save your processed registration.
