After years of honored service, did you find that you no longer use your Skype account very often and therefore have decided to close it? After some hassle from strangers, have you decided to open a new account on Skype by closing the old one? It can be done, quiet, but unfortunately the operation is not as linear as desirable. In fact, unlike other online services, Skype does not allow you to delete created accounts (at least not without contacting assistance) but only to "empty" them of their content and make them invisible in searches (so that no one can find them). However, the situation is different if Skype is used in conjunction with a Microsoft account.
In any case, you do not have to worry, if you want to get rid of your account and you have not yet managed to underste well how to do it, follow the instructions on how to unsubscribe from Skype that I am about to give you and you will finally succeed in your intent. It will not take long.
So take five minutes or so of free time, sit comfortably in front of your trusted computer and concentrate on reading this guide. I am sure that in the end you will be able to tell yourself satisfied and that if necessary you will also be ready and willing to explain to friends and relatives in need of receiving a similar tip which steps to take to unsubscribe from Skype. So tell me, are you ready? Yes? Great. So let's ban the chatter and proceed.
Preliminary operation
Before explaining how you need to proceed to unsubscribe from Skype, there are some preliminary steps that you should do to make sure that everything goes in the right way. To begin with, I suggest you use all the credit in your possession linked to your profile since once the procedure by which you unsubscribe from Skype has been completed, it can no longer be recovered. Secondly, I invite you to cancel any active subscriptions for your account in order to avoid unexpected renewals and I suggest you do the same with recurring payments as well.
To check the agolability of credit, the presence of subscriptions and to cancel recurring payments, click here in order to connect to the web page through which you can log in to your Skype profile, fill in the fields displayed on the screen by typing your details. access to the service and then presses the green button with written on it Log in.
Once logged in, scroll down the web page until you find the section Account data and click on your voice Purchase register. Then select the name of the subscription you want to cancel, click Cancel subscription and confirm the execution of the procedure by clicking on the appropriate button that is shown on the screen.
To cancel recurring payments, presses on the item instead Authoricarica that you can always find at the bottom of the web page of your Skype profile, in correspondence with the section Account data. Then press the green button disable and confirm your willingness to carry out this operation.
Unsubscribe from Skype

At this point you can proceed safely by going to put in place all the procedure to unsubscribe from Skype. To begin with, connect to the web page relating to your Skype account by typing https://login.skype.com/login in the address bar of the browser, by pressing the button Submit on the keyboard and filling in the fields displayed on the screen with your login data to the service. Then click on the button Log in.
At this point, as mentioned above, all you have to do is "empty" your Skype account by replacing all the information in it with empty spaces. Then click on the item Edit profile located at the bottom right, click on the button Edit profile located in the upper right part of the web page that is shown to you.
Remove all the data in your account: date of birth, city, telephone numbers and so on. You can delete everything except Your name, Last name ed Email address (which you can replace with fictitious information). When done, click the button Save per salvare i Cambiomenti.
To delete the profile picture, you must instead access the Skype client installed on your computer, click on your name, then press on the item Change the picture e replace it with an impersonal image to your liking. Finally, set your profile from public to private by clicking on the entry Public placed under the profile picture and selecting the item Only to contacts give the menu to compare.
If you want to completely delete your account and not just "empty" it of all personal information, you must contact Skype support by following the instructions on the support page and request the deletion of your profile from your interlocutor. Keep in mind that it may take up to 30 days for your name to disappear from the directory after which no one will be able to find you on the famous VoIP client. However, your name will continue to appear in your friends' contact lists unless they remove it. However, no one will be able to contact you anymore, do not worry.
To permanently cancel your Skype account, click here in order to connect to the appropriate web page of the service's website e, if necessary, log in again by entering your Skype login details in the fields displayed on the screen. Then presses on the menu that is shown to you, select the option Account and password, then select the action Closing an account attached to the menu that appeared under the item Choose a related issue e poi press the pulsating Following.
Select by voice Chat support then wait for an operator to get in touch with you and explicitly request to proceed by closing your Skype account. The chat assistance is active from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 21:00. On Saturday, assistance is active from 10:00 to 18:00 while on Sunday it is not possible to request support.
Microsoft account
Do you connect to Skype using your Microsoft account and not an address created specifically for Skype? In this case, you could completely delete your account by closing the account, but this is not recommended as it would reont in the closure of your Outlook.com/Hotmail/Live email address and the inability to use online services such as Office Online and Xbox Live.
If you are aware of all this and want to proceed the same, connect to the Microsoft account management panel by clicking here and then log in to the service by typing in the field Email or phone address e-mail address related to the account you want to close and in the field Password the password associated with it. Then click on the button Log in e wait for the login to be done.
Now select the item Security and privacy which is located at the top right and then presses on the item Other security settings che trovi in corrispondenza della sezione Account security nella nuova page visualizzata.
If prompted, complete the verification procedure of your identity by requesting a security code by e-mail or SMS, then click on Submit the code e enter the code you received via e-mail or as a message on your mobile phone in the appropriate field that is shown on the screen. Then press the button Send.
Now scroll down to the bottom of the new screen that is shown to you, locate the section Close your account e then click on the entry Close your account.
Then, press the button NEXT, put the check mark next to all the options that are shown to you (Outlook.com, Hotmail e OneDrive will no longer be accessible, Content may not work as expected etc.) and click on the button first Mark e then end but I will complete the procedure.

Delete Skype from your computer, smartphone and tablet
To successfully complete the entire procedure to unsubscribe from Skype, I suggest you take another small step: delete the account data from your computer so that it also disappears from the program settings.
- If you use Windows, calls up the menu Esegui ... premendo the combination of tasti Win + R on your computer keyboard and give the comme % Appdata%. In the window that opens, enter the directory Skype and delete the folder named as your username by right clicking and choosing Delete from the displayed menu. If you are unable to access one of these folders, make sure you have enabled the display of hidden files and folders (if you remember correctly, I explained how to do it in my guide on how to show hidden folders and files) and that you have closed all previously opened Skype sessions.
- If you are using a Mac, go to the Desk and select the item Go to folder ... from the menu go present at the top. In the window that opens, paste the path ~/Library/Application Support/Skype e cheap with go. Then find the folder that is named as the account you want to delete from Skype and drag it to Trash can.
If you had downloaded the Skype app on your smartphone and / or tablet, I suggest you delete your account data on your mobile devices as well. To do this, simply delete the application from your device.
- If you use Android, access the home screen, tap on thegear to access the settings, select the item Applications from the screen that opens and presses on the card All located at the top right (swipe the screen from right to left if you don't see it). Next, select the app Skype, press the pulsating Uninstall e confirm the removal of the app by pressing the button OK
- If you use iOS, access the home screen, locate the app icon Skype, press on it and continue to hold until it begins to "jump" and then tap on x placed in the upper left part of the same. Then press the button Elimination per confermare l'esecuzione dell'operazione.
